 The TSO is always looking to improve itself with new talent! Formal auditions take place in the beginning of September and the end of January, however, students may audition at any time for placement in the orchestra for the next semester. Or, in such cases where an immediate vacancy needs to be filled, accepted individuals may be asked to join as soon as possible.
A successful audition guarantees membership in the orchestra for the duration of one's tenure at Tufts University. The hope is that individuals who do join the group stay with the group, in order to build strong loyalty as well as a tight musical community. |

| Openings in the Tufts Symphony Orchestra do not only apply to first-year students. You may join at any time, including your senior year! The TSO also welcomes students from the NEC-Tufts dual-degree program, as well as students from its graduate schools, even those that are not located in Medford, MA. |

Although musicians playing any instrument are welcome to audition, the TSO is actively seeking musicians for the following sections:
- Bass
- Horn
- Clarinet
- Bassoon
- Percussion
- Tuba
Please note that regardless of the above listings, all musicians are welcome to audition in all sections! The above listings are simply to point out sections in which the TSO has strong need for additional personnel.

| Touring Orchestra Openings |
|
The Tufts Symphony Orchestra works hard to expand its horizons and achieve group unity through touring. (To learn more about the current tour, see the Tour Information section.) Putting  together a good touring orchestra is as important as it is difficult, as the instrument groups that tour have a heavy influence on what is performed.
Because not all TSO personnel tour with the group, vacancies often appear which need to be immediately filled. Non-TSO members are strongly encouraged to audition for the orchestra which tours in January. Acceptance into the touring orchestra does not necessarily imply entrance into the TSO, however those who tour who are interested in joining the TSO should certainly inquire. Financial aid is available for TSO tours, however preference is given in this order: TSO members, Tufts students, non-Tufts students.
